CATDOLL : Can cats eat shrimp?

Can cats eat shrimp?

Cats can eat dried shrimps, but in moderation. Pay attention to the frequency of feeding dried shrimps and the amount of each feeding. Dried shrimps are rich in protein and minerals, especially calcium. Cats can eat dried shrimps to supplement calcium. The delicious taste of dried shrimps can increase cats' appetite, but cat food should still be the main food in daily life.

Things to note when cats eat shrimps:

1. Feed cats with moderate amounts of dried shrimps. Dried shrimps contain high levels of cholesterol and calcium, which are not conducive to cats’ digestion and absorption. Excessive intake by cats will increase the risk of disease.

2. It is best to crush the shrimp skin before feeding it to the cat, because the shrimp skin is hard and may scratch the intestines.

3. Shrimp skin must be cooked thoroughly, because parasite eggs and worm bodies are easily attached to shrimp skin. If it is not heated thoroughly during the cooking process, infectious parasite eggs may enter the cat's body.

4. Control the frequency of feeding shrimp skin. Feeding shrimp skin frequently may cause cats to be picky eaters. You can also mix shrimp skin into cat food and feed it to cats.

5. The shrimp shells should be broken into smaller pieces to make them easier to eat and better for cats, especially female cats.

6. When feeding dried shrimps to cats, wash them with water. Dried shrimps have a high salt content and cats are prone to urinary stones if they eat too much.
