CATDOLL: The difference between silver carp and bighead carp, and the breeding method of silver carp

1. Head: The head of silver carp is large and wide, about one-third of its body length, while the head of bighead carp is smaller, about one-quarter of its body length. 2. Scales: The scales of silver carp are white without spots, while the sides of silver carp are dark brown with light black or yellow spots. 3. Abdomen: There is a very obvious fold in the middle of the abdomen of silver carp, while the abdomen of bighead carp is smooth and without folds.

1. The difference between silver carp and bighead carp

1. Head

The head of the silver carp is large and wide, and its length is about one-third or even half of its body length, so it is also called big-head fish or fathead fish. The head of the bighead carp is smaller, and its length is about one-quarter of its body length.

2. Scales

The scales of silver carp and bighead carp are both relatively small, but the scales on the silver carp are all white without spots, while the sides of the bighead carp are dark brown with light black or yellow spots.

3. Abdomen

There is a very obvious crease in the center of the silver carp's abdomen, which runs through the entire ventral surface before and after the pelvic fin, while the bighead carp's abdomen is smooth and has no creases.

4. Pectoral fins

The pectoral fins of silver carp do not exceed the base of the pelvic fins, while the pectoral fins of bighead carp are longer, with the rear edge exceeding the base of the pelvic fins.

2. How to Breed Silver Carp

1. Pond treatment

(1) The pond water depth should be controlled at about 1.5-2.5m, the thickness of the silt at the bottom of the pond should not exceed 30cm, and the water source should be of good quality without pollution.

(2) When the water is drained to about 10 cm, use 75-100 kg of quicklime per acre of pond for disinfection.

(3) About 5-7 days before stocking the fry, apply 200-300 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu of pond (1m water depth) to fertilize the water and cultivate plankton as bait for bighead carp.

2. Free range

(1) Stocking is carried out around February and March when the water temperature is 8-10℃. 700 silver carp, 100 bighead carp, and a small amount of crucian carp are stocked per acre of pond.

(2) The fish species should be of good shape, strong vitality, healthy physique, uniform size and without any external damage.

(3) Before stocking, fish fingerlings should be disinfected with salt water.

3. Management

(1) When feeding, follow the principle of "fixed quality, fixed time, fixed location, and fixed quantity" and feed reasonably according to the feeding habits of the fish species. Generally, feed 2-3 times a day, and the amount of feed is about 1-3% of the fish body weight.

(2) In winter and spring, apply manure to keep the water transparency at around 30 cm. In summer and autumn, add new water every 15 days or so to keep the water transparency at around 20 cm (the temperature difference before and after water change should not exceed 3°C).

(3) The dissolved oxygen content in the pond should be maintained above 4 mg/L, and the ammonia nitrogen content in the water should not exceed 0.2 mg/L.

(4) From May to September, 20 kg of quicklime slurry should be sprayed throughout the pond twice a month.
