How to preserve live swimming crabs

1. Method 1 for preserving live crabs: Put them in the bathtub

Put it in the bathtub and let it serve as a temporary breeding pond. Gently place the fresh crabs you just bought in it, and fill it with water that is just enough to cover the crabs, leaving enough water for them to breathe when they stand up. Add a small amount of small fish and shrimp into the water depending on how long they need to be kept.

2. Method 2 for preserving live crabs: Put them in a plastic bucket/basin

If you don't have a bathtub at home, you can put the crabs in a tall plastic bucket/basin with a smooth inner wall. Be careful not to stack them. Just add water to half the height of the crabs. Don't bury the crabs completely. Water that is too deep will make them unable to breathe.

3. Method 3 for preserving live crabs: Put them in the refrigerator

Live crabs can also be stored in the refrigerator, but you need to be careful about how to do it. First, find a foam box of the right size according to the freezer compartment of your refrigerator, then tie up the crabs' legs and feet, and put them in the foam box one by one, then add water that has soaked the crabs' surface into the box. Finally, cover the foam box and put it in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator.

How to store live swimming crabs in the refrigerator

Find a foam box, if you don't have one, find a bamboo basket, a wet towel, and 2-3 500ml empty mineral water bottles.

Fill a few empty mineral water bottles with water, freeze them into ice lumps in the refrigerator, take them out, and put them in a foam box or bamboo basket with the crabs. Before putting them in, put a wet towel under the box or basket. After everything is put in, cover it with a lid and put it in the refrigerator. You can take it out whenever you want to eat it, which can ensure that the crabs are always alive.

But please note that this method is only a temporary measure. The crabs will not grow fat if they are kept for a long time. So you should eat them as soon as possible. In addition, this method is also suitable for preserving river crabs.

How to preserve live swimming crabs for the longest time

The best way is to use your own bathtub as a temporary holding pool, and let the crabs enjoy it first: because the walls of the bathtub are smooth, the crabs cannot escape, then gently pour the crabs into the bathtub, and fill it with water to just bury the crabs. If the crabs stand up their eight legs, they can breathe on the water surface, and add a small amount of small fish and shrimp depending on the storage time and quantity. This method of preserving live crabs can generally store crabs for more than 7 days or longer, and the survival rate of good quality crabs can reach over 95%.
