Leech breeding technology tutorial

Leeches are also called leeches, or medicinal leeches. They belong to the genus Leech, and generally live in fresh water, with a few living in seawater, and some living in moist soil, grass, and branches. They are traditional medicinal aquatic organisms recorded in Chinese medicine materials. In Chinese medicine, they have a curative effect on stroke, hypertension, silt removal, traumatic injuries, amenorrhea, and other diseases.

Leeches generally grow in the wild, and the general method of catching them is natural fishing. However, with the progress of industrialization and urbanization, coupled with the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides, the number of leeches in the wild has dropped significantly. In addition, the medical effects of leeches have gradually been recognized by the public, and the supply of leeches is far lower than the demand. Therefore, the wild catching of leeches has been transformed into artificial breeding.

1. Breeding Pond

Generally, the breeding pond is set as a pool or pond with a width of 3 meters, a depth of 1 meter and an unlimited length. The ditch and low-yield field can also be dug into a connected ditch farm with ridges. The ditch is 3 meters wide, the ridge is 40 centimeters wide and 80 centimeters high. The water depth can be maintained at 60 centimeters. The water inlet and outlet are set at both ends, the leech habitat is set at the bottom, and stones or branches are laid.

2. Seed selection

When introducing new species, it is necessary to select good varieties with high yield, stable yield, high quality, stress resistance and wide adaptability. The careful selection of good varieties is related to the yield per unit area and the breeding efficiency. Therefore, the quality of the leeches is directly related to the number of leech seedlings, the survival rate, the growth speed and the size of the individuals.

3. Bait

Snails are the main food of leeches. About 25 kilograms of snails can be raised per acre of water surface as food for leeches. Earthworms, insects, etc. can also be used as their food appropriately. Animal blood also needs to be input in a certain amount every week, such as small pieces of pig, cow, and sheep blood clots.

4. Fishing

October is generally the harvest time for leeches. Leeches should be salvaged at this time, and they should generally be classified into large, medium and small sizes. The large ones are kept as seed leeches and continue to be raised in the pond, the medium ones are processed and sold, and the small ones are kept and continued to be raised.
