CATDOLL: Catching and processing golden-edged earthworms

1. Capture

The golden-edged earthworm is active frequently during the warm and neither too hot nor too cold rainy season. The most suitable time for outdoor capture is from May to September. Common capture methods are: ① Artificial capture. Use special straw mats, straw curtains or sacks to spread around the hiding place of the earthworm. Remove the natural shelter, and the earthworm will run under the straw mat. Then slowly lift the straw mat to capture it separately. ② Trapping. Use a large-mouthed jar or other container, put some fried rice bran or earthworm's favorite food in it, cover it with a layer of weeds or leaves, and place the jar in the place where the earthworm often moves in the evening. Put a few wooden sticks on the side of the jar and connect them to the ground to lead the earthworm into the jar. When the earthworm smells the fragrance, it will inevitably enter the jar to find food. The next morning, cover the mouth of the jar with a cloth bag and move it back to the breeding pond for release. ③ Build an earthworm tower. Use turf and mud blocks to stack into a tower in the place where the earthworm often moves, put some grass and its favorite food in it, and turn it over regularly to capture it.

2. Processing

October to November is the best time to process them. For females that have laid eggs many times, do not keep too many. Practice has shown that those that lay many eggs are weak and generally cannot survive the winter. Even if they survive the winter, they will die in the spring of the next year. Therefore, when cleaning the tank or pond in winter, pick out the old female turtles, scald them with boiling water, dry them in the sun or roast them over a slow fire, and then sell them.
