Reasons for red pig ears

Redness of pig ears may be caused by the following reasons:

  • Skin infection: Pig ears are often in a humid environment, which can easily breed bacteria and fungi and lead to skin infections.
  • Parasitic Infections: Parasites such as ear mites and scabies may cause redness and itching in pigs’ ears.
  • Allergic reactions: When pigs are allergic to certain foods, environments or substances, the ears are often the first part to show an allergic reaction, and redness is a common symptom.

Treatment for red pig ears

Depending on the cause, the following treatments can be used:

  • Skin infections: Clean the pig's ears, wash with a mild antibacterial wash, and apply a suitable antibacterial ointment for treatment.
  • Parasitic infection: Use special anthelmintics to treat pigs and clean and disinfect the environment.
  • Allergic reactions: Eliminate pig allergens, such as feed, bedding, etc., and use anti-allergic drugs for treatment.

Measures to prevent pig ears from getting red

To avoid redness in pig ears, you can take the following preventive measures:

  • Keep the pig house clean and dry, and change the bedding in time to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi.
  • Deworm pigs regularly to avoid parasitic infections.
  • Pay attention to the pigs' reactions to food and environment, and eliminate allergens in time if any allergic symptoms occur.
