CATDOLL : Why do cats eat cat litter?

Why do cats eat cat litter?

Reasons why cats eat cat litter:

1. The smell of cat litter is very attractive to cats. Some cat litters are made into fragrant particles, especially those with milky flavor, which are very attractive to cats. Cats think they are food and eat them.

2. The cat feels hungry. When a cat has not eaten for a long time, it will look for food everywhere, and when it is very hungry, it will eat cat litter.

3. Cats are curious. Newborn kittens are full of curiosity about everything, especially cat litter that they have never seen before. They will want to try it to see if it is edible.

4. Cats are malnourished. Liking to eat cat litter is also a manifestation of pica, which means that the cat lacks certain nutrients in its body and wants to obtain these nutrients by eating cat litter.

5. The cat is sick. When a cat is anemic or has kidney disease, it will frequently eat cat litter, which generally requires scientific means to confirm the diagnosis.

6. Anemia. In cases where cats eat soil (mainly clay/bentonite), anemia, iron deficiency, and hypokalemia are the most commonly observed symptoms.

7. Boredom. If the cat litter is bentonite fine sand, the cat loves to roll around in the litter box and may eat it occasionally just to “try something new”.
