It mainly feeds on plant-based feed and is an omnivorous fish. It does not require high feed quality and has a strong digestive ability. It can digest and absorb algae that other fish cannot use, such as Microcystis and Anabaena. A small amount of artificial feed combined with a large amount of other roughage can meet its requirements.
