CATDOLL: Why do loaches spit bubbles when it rains?

1. Why do loaches spit bubbles when it rains?

I didn't observe carefully. It's not blowing bubbles.

In addition to breathing through gills and skin, loaches can also breathe through their intestines. When there is a lack of oxygen in the water or when they leave the water, loaches will stick their heads out of the water and breathe directly through their mouths. The intestines of loaches are not like those of ordinary fish, which are tangled in the stomach. Their intestines connect the esophagus and anus to form a straight tube, which is as thin and transparent as sausage casings and covered with capillaries. This straight intestine has the function of digesting food and breathing. When air is swallowed into the intestines, the capillaries on the intestinal wall absorb the oxygen in it, and the remaining gas and carbon dioxide released from the blood are discharged from the anus.

When it rains, the oxygen in the water is low, so it will go to the surface of the water and swallow the air. Then it will expel the gas from the anus. So it is not vomiting bubbles. You can only see bubbles coming out when it comes to the surface of the water. So what you think is vomiting is not actually expelling. It is expelled from the anus.

2. Why are there bubbles when loaches are packed together? What can we do?

If you stir with low cooking oil, there will be no foam.

3. Is the foam on the loach self-produced?

Yes, it is a way to protect yourself.

4. Why do loaches die in the rain?

They will crawl out of the ground to breathe only when they are short of oxygen.

Because when it rains, the soil is full of rainwater and there is no oxygen. Loaches breathe through their skin, and the most suitable humidity is 70% to 80%. They like damp and dark places, but too much water will hinder their breathing, so they will come out to hide for a while, but they will also look for dark places when they come out, and they will generally not be discovered. What you see is that they just haven't found the right place.
