CATDOLL: Cicadas come out after being underground for several years

The eggs laid by cicadas hatch into young cicadas in half a month. The life period of young cicadas is particularly long. The shortest one lives underground for 2 to 3 years, usually 4 to 5 years, and the longest is 17 years. Young cicadas live underground for a long time, with warm winters and cool summers, and few natural enemies to threaten them. They are quite comfortable. After molting 4 to 5 times, they will drill out of the ground and climb onto branches to molt one by one (called "golden cicada molting"), becoming adults.

The cicada belongs to the family Cicadidae in the order Homoptera of the class Insecta. It is an insect with incomplete metamorphosis. Its growth and development go through three stages: egg, nymph, and adult. In late July, after mating, the female adult begins to lay eggs, which are generally laid on branches with a diameter of about 5 mm. When laying eggs, the ovipositor is used to pierce many inclined egg chambers 0.5 to 1.0 cm deep on the branches. One egg chamber produces 6 to 8 fertilized eggs, which begin to hatch in June after overwintering.

The nymphs fall to the ground and then burrow into the soil, where they obtain nutrition by sucking the sap from plant roots. They generally live in the soil for 3 to 5 years, or even longer, until the last larvae emerge from the ground, climb up nearby weeds and trees, and eventually stay on branches and bark, molting and emerging as adults. They begin to mate and lay eggs 20 days after emergence, with the peak egg-laying period occurring from the end of June to the end of August, and gradually entering the final egg-laying period.

Cicadas, also known as cicadas, live in temperate to tropical regions of the world (more than 2,000 species of cicadas have been recorded). Some species distributed in desert areas will expel excess water from their backs when their body temperature is overheated, thereby achieving the effect of cooling and dissipating heat.
