Which type of fish sells best in Ningbo market?

How much seafood did residents of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, eat in 2011? Which fish is eaten by the most people? According to statistics from the Jiangdong Aquatic Products Wholesale Market, which accounts for about 80% of the total aquatic product trading volume in the city, Ningbo residents consumed more than 250,000 tons of marine products last year, with a turnover of more than 2.4 billion yuan, a net increase of more than 80,000 tons and more than 600 million yuan respectively compared with 2010. Based on the population of one million in Ningbo city, the average annual consumption per person is more than 80 kilograms.

Ningbo residents are more interested in the top 10 fish species, including hairtail, yellow croaker, pomfret, crab, sea eel, shrimp, prawn, squid, herring and plum fish. Last year, the total consumption of these top 10 fish species reached 142,400 tons, accounting for more than half of the total consumption of aquatic products.

It is worth mentioning that hairtail, yellow croaker and pomfret ranked the top three. It is understood that last year, Ningbo people ate more than 57,000 tons of hairtail, yellow croaker and pomfret, accounting for more than 20% of the sales of more than 100 kinds of aquatic products in Ningbo. Statistics show that among the top 10 fish favored by citizens, hairtail consumption was 21,900 tons, a net increase of more than 5,000 tons compared with 2010!

Last year, the crab market in Ningbo was very busy - nearly 16,000 tons of sea crabs were consumed in a year, and the ranking quietly "climbed" from the previous fifth place to the fourth place. However, fresh cuttlefish, which had been ranked high in previous years, has "no longer been on the list". The reasons are: first, the lack of resources; second, the cuttlefish with "eggs" that Ningbo people like to eat very much is extremely rare and unseen; third, the consumption of squid, which looks and tastes similar, has increased significantly. Last year, the consumption of squid reached nearly 12,000 tons, ranking eighth. The once popular black carp has been ranked ninth and is about to drop out of the top ten!
