Where can I catch Daphnia in Hanzhong?

Daphnia can be found in ponds and rivers containing green algae. There are very few Daphnia in water that is too clear or too polluted. They are difficult to find in clear water or extremely polluted water.

How to breed Daphnia

How to breed Daphnia:

1. Build a pool: The pool should be about 1 meter deep and the size should be a rectangle of 10 to 30 square meters.

2. Fill the pond with water to a depth of about 50 cm. The suitable water temperature for Daphnia is 18 to 25 degrees and the pH value is 7.5 to 8.

3. Fertilization: For every cubic meter of water in the earthen pond, add 4 kg of cow dung or other animal dung, 1.5 kg of rice straw, wheat straw or other non-toxic plant stems and leaves as base fertilizer. Apply top dressing once after 10 days, with the same amount of top dressing as base fertilizer. After that, apply top dressing according to the water color to keep the water color yellow-brown.

4. Cultivation: Use yeast and inorganic fertilizer mixed cultivation method. Add 20 grams of yeast per cubic meter of water. The yeast can be soaked in water for 3 to 4 hours before pouring into the pool. Apply 65 grams of ammonium carbonate and 37.5 grams of ammonium nitrate per cubic meter of water. Apply once every 5 days, and the amount is half of the initial amount. After adding yeast, expose the pool water to the sun for 1 to 3 days, and then add water fleas for seeding.

5. Collection: After 15 to 20 days of being placed in the pond, Daphnia species will reproduce in large numbers and cover the entire pond.
